Automate your entire day with Quip and Zapier

By Juli Fischer

Our friends over at Zapier have a cool product, and it integrates with Quip. If you haven't heard of Zapier, it lets you connect the apps you use every day, automate stuff you usually do manually, and save a bunch of time. Each connection between apps is called a “Zap.” Here's a little bit about the most recent Zap they've built for Quip.

Create Quip documents automatically

The idea for this Zap came from Vicky Cassidy, a customer champion at Zapier. Every week, Cassidy creates a report in Quip that tells her teammates what she's working on. To simplify that process, she now uses Zapier, Quip, and Todoist together: She set up a Zap that creates a Quip document the same time every week. The Zap also creates a Task in Todoist to remind her to fill out the newly created Quip document. And just like that, Cassidy has everything she needs already put together so she can start filling out her report, then move onto the next thing.

How to get started automating Quip tasks with Zapier

  1. Make sure you have a Zapier account and a Quip account
  2. Try some pre-made Quip integrations and learn more about how Quip works with Zapier
  3. Check out Zapier's Quip help documentation for details on connecting your account and setting up your first Zap
  4. Or sign in to Zapier to build a custom workflow with Quip and Zapier

There's more than one Quip Zap, though. There are currently 25 Quip actions you can automate using Zapier, like sharing Tweets in a Quip chat, adding new MailChimp subscribers to a Quip spreadsheet, or getting notified of new Quip documents in Slack. You can see all the Quip Zaps here.

Zapier isn't the only app that Quip connects with to make your life easier. Here in the Quip office, we use integrations with GitHub, Twitter, PagerDuty, Dropbox, and more every single day. You can, too! Check out our blog post on Quip integrations for more info. And for the technical info on how those integrations get made in the first place, visit our API page.
